Anne Arundell Towne Questers
In choosing the name Anne Arundel Towne for our Questers Chapter, we salute one of America’s most historic places, the nearby city of Annapolis, which went by the name of Anne Arundell Towne in the late 1600’s.
The surrounding county was the first to receive the name Anne Arundell in 1650. The General Assembly of Maryland voted to honor the memory of Arundell, wife of the second Lord Baltimore, in the year following her untimely death.
Anne Arundell had been a Roman Catholic lady of high birth. In 1628, at the tender age of thirteen, she married Cecil Calvert, was the mother to seven children, and was much admired for her beauty, charm and hospitality. These qualities live on in this area named for her.
